The UAE’s first fully autonomous taxis brand-named TXAI (Taxi + Ai) recently conducted the first phase of trial at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. It was reported successful.

Passengers ordered the driverless electric cars through the TXAI app available in Apple and Google Play Stores. The taxis reportedly transported 2,733 passengers to predetermined destinations and accomplished over 16,600 kms of autonomous driving.

The trail phase had safety officers in the driving seat to ensure the safety of passengers.

The taxis make use of geospatial data, advanced mapping and artificial intelligence (Ai) capabilities provided by the initiator of the ride-sharing service project, Bayanat for Mapping & Surveying Services LLC, a subsidiary of G42, an AI and cloud computing company in the UAE, in partnership with WeRide.ai, a global company developing autonomous driving technologies for smart cities.
